Upon delivery, you must complete the initial setup of your terminal. Follow these steps before activating your device:

1. Security check upon delivery

To ensure the secure handling of your customers' card data, we strongly recommended inspecting your terminals for any signs of tampering.

Steps to follow:

  1. Verify that the plastic cover around the terminal box is undamaged.
  2. Compare the device you received with the image of the device you ordered.
  3. Check the weight of the terminal to ensure no unauthorized objects have been added. For example, in the battery compartment.


2. Initial terminal setup

  1. Charge the terminal for at least 30 minutes. If your terminal is cable powered, connect it to a power cable.
  2. Press and hold the power button for a few seconds to switch it on.
  3. Follow the initial setup instructions:
    • Set the language and time zone for your terminal
    • Select your network (Wi-Fi, Mobile, or Ethernet)
    • Activate the terminal. Ensure you are connected to a stable network
  4. Once activation is successful, access the terminal's main screen

3. Connect to the internet

Depending on your terminal model, you can:

Connect to a Wi-Fi network

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > WLAN.
  2. Select your Wi-Fi network.

Connect via a network cable

Some terminals allow connectivity through a network cable. This enhances network stability.



4. Update your terminal

To update your terminal's operating system:

  1. Log into your Sunmi partner portal.
  2. Go to Device > Device upgrade > Upgrade management.
  3. Remove the data filter.
  4. If there is new firmware available, the Add to Upgrade Group button will be highlighted. Adding a terminal to the update group allows it to detect and download new updates automatically.
  1. Download will start automatically. By default, the download limit is set to 20KB/sec. You can increase this on the terminal itself in the System update app, ideally via the partner portal to apply it to all terminals.
  2. Upon successful download, reboot the terminal to install the newly downloaded update.
  3. You can automate this in the partner portal via Device > Device Upgrade > Important package configuration.

To check updates on the device:

  1. Reboot via the button on right of the device.
  2. Settings (terminal) > About device > (select model).
  3. You can view your current version, and check update.


SUNMI partner portal

When ordering a terminal for the first time, you can sign up for a SUNMI Partner account. For your first order, we will send you an invitation link that allows you to register. The link expires after 24 hours, so you must complete registration within this time frame.

There are two types of SUNMI partner accounts, depending on your business needs:

Collaborative account

Collaborative accounts allow you to upload your own applications to your terminals. You can also blacklist and whitelist third-party applications.

After signing up, you must grant us authorization to activate your device:

  1. Log in to your SUNMI partner account
  2. Go to Account Center > Partner > Add Partner
  3. Enter the following Entity (Account) ID: 608A93F7603D0
  4. Once added, under Operation, click Authorize
  5. Enable the RKI (Remote Key Injection) toggle

Once authorization is completed, inform your partner manager.

Controlled account

Controlled accounts are limited to terminal customization and blacklisting of third-party applications. You cannot upload your own APK files.

During signup, no additional permissions are required. After completing your registration and receiving your terminal, you can proceed to customize your terminals via the SUNMI partner portal.

SUNMI partner portal: user guide

From your SUNMI partner account, you can manage and customize your terminals:

  • Automatically update your terminals to the latest OS version
  • Set automatic reboot times
  • Adjust download speeds
  • Control which apps are available for your terminal
  • Customize your device system settings

Log into your SUNMI partner account and check the options below for detailed instructions:

Upgrade management

Adjust settings per device model and set automatic updates, download speeds, and upgrade notifications.

To access upgrade settings, go to Device > Device Upgrade.

Manually update your terminal's OS
  1. Go to Upgrade Management

  2. Remove the date filter to browse all terminals

  3. Go to the relevant terminal and click Add to Upgrade Group to manually upgrade the firmware.

  4. The latest available firmware will be installed

Change download speed limit

The download speed limit is set to 20KB/sec by default. We recommend updating it to a higher rate to increase download speed. To change your download speed:

  1. Go to Important package configuration
  2. Click Set for the relevant model to access the terminal`s configuration
  3. Go to Download speed limit. Enter a new limit and click Setup
  4. The download speed will be updated
How to set automatic reboots

You can set timers for automatic reboots for intervals where you are not using your terminal. These settings are applied per device model. To set a reboot timer:

  1. Go to Important package configuration
  2. Go to the relevant device and click Set
  3. Go to Automatic upgrade at night and click to toggle to enable automatic reboots
  4. Under Automatic upgrade at night, click setup to set a time reminder. Here you can set when the device will reboot. Configure a time when your business is not operating.
  5. Optionally, click the Automatic installation prompt toggle to enable a countdown notification before reboot.

Application settings

Upload your applications and control which apps are available on your terminals.

Go to Device > App Store to access applications settings.

Upload your application
  1. Go to App Publishing
  2. Click + or drag your APK to upload your app
  3. Your app will be uploaded to your SUNMI partner portal
Automatic installation and updates for apps

You can change installation and update settings for specific applications on your terminal.

  1. Go to Apps list
  2. Go to the relevant app in the list and click the Settings button
  3. Select whether you want the app to:
    • Automatically update to the latest version
    • Update to a specific version
    • Be installed once the device is booted and connected to a network
  4. Select the device models you want to apply this setting to
How to whitelist/blacklist applications

Go to Apps list and follow the instructions below:

How to whitelist apps

  1. Click Show Blacklist
  2. Filter by name or search the app list
  3. Select the relevant app(s) and click Remove
  4. The selected apps will be whitelisted

How to blacklist apps

  1. Click Add to blacklist
  2. Under Apps published, select the apps you want to blacklist
  3. Click Block

System customization

Customize your terminal's behavior to your preferences, add custom boot animations and set which apps launch during boot.

  • Start application(s) on device boot

  1. Go to Default Startup
  2. Select which apps you want to run automatically during boot

Change network connection

Connect your terminal to an internet connection. Depending on your terminal model, you can:

Manage battery

If your battery is not charging, ensure that you are using a USB-C cable that is properly connected to the power source.

Print receipts

To print your receipt, you need a thermal printer roll of either 57mm or 58mm.

Serial number

You can find your serial number (for SmartPOS / SUNMI )

  • On your device: The placement of the serial number varies by model. It is often found on the back of the terminal.
  • In the MultiSafepay payment app: Go to Settings > Menu > About and scroll to the bottom.
  • In the Sunmi settings app: The path to the serial number depends on the Android version. You can typically find it under Model and hardware or About device.
