Request to Pay

What is it?

Request to Pay, previously known as Direct Bank Transfer, is an innovative ecommerce solution by Deutsche Bank, allowing merchants to collect funds from their end customers who authorise the related payments in an automated, integrated and secure way. It´s based on SEPA transfers (Single Euro Payments Area) and the PSD2 Open Banking API.

Currently, MultiSafepay only processes Request to Pay transactions for Germany. As expansion continues, more countries will follow. The banks offering instant SEPA bank transfers is increasing as further banks migrate to PSD2 APIs’.

How does it work?

Request to Pay works in such a way that consumers are redirected to Deutsche Bank’s online banking platform, after authenticating themselves with the same credentials as when logging in to their online banking platform, a SEPA bank transfer is authorised directly from the consumer to the merchant via MultiSafepay. An authorised bank transfer can be settled instantly or after 24 hrs, depending on if the bank supports instant payments or not.

Request to Pay reduces cost and risk, enabling faster settlement, providing simplified reconciliation.
