About recurring payments

Recurring payments let you automatically charge a customer’s bank account or credit card on a regular basis, e.g. for a monthly or annual subscription. The customer must initiate the first payment.

Supported payment methods

You can set up recurring payments for:

  • Credit cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express
  • SEPA Direct Debit: SOFORT Banking, iDEAL
  • Optionally, you can use iDEAL, …
Processing recurring payments

To process recurring payments, follow these steps:

Step 1: Ensure the payment gateway is configured for the payment method:

  • SEPA Direct Debit: DIRDEB
  • Credit cards: VISA, MASTERCARD, or AMEX

Step 2: The customer initiates the first payment using their selected payment method:

  • SEPA Direct Debit: iDEAL, SOFORT Banking
  • Credit cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express

Recurring payments are not enabled by default in your MultiSafepay account.

Refunding recurring payments

You can only refund recurring transactions to customers when the transaction status is Completed.

To refund a transaction, follow these steps:

  1. In your MultiSafepay account, go to Transactions > Transaction overview.
  2. Search for the transaction and open the Transaction details page.
  3. Select Refund.
  4. Enter the amount that you want to refund to the customer.
  5. Click Confirm.

Responses to recurring payment transaction request may contain a 1000 error. Possible reasons for this include:
